How far away do you think we are from flying cars?

Post by Lex Luthor »

Like in the movies, it would be cool to have a flying car.

How far off do you think we are from seeing the first flying car, if it was ever possible one day?

I see it as a possibility, possibly late in our lifetimes.

1950's and 60's.
?

if you mean the one's like the DeLorean in back to the future we need to master higgs boson manipulation first before creating anti-grav generators for stuff like blade runner and whatnot.

until then my previous example as well as these two are the closest we have Right now.

and they're more like rideable drones lol.

A rideable drone seems like a good start... and like something I'd want in general.

I personally like the last one, it's a kind of drone based flying motorcycle :P
seems like fun...
the hardest part though is battery life, so I'm hoping the Bi-Carbon batteries take off, not only do they charge faster and have way longer battery life, but they are bio-degradeable.
literally cotton strands suspended in an amino acid solution.

Wait, that's what they're made of!? I'd only heard they were a thing to come, not what they were made of. That's pretty amazing!

I think that the technology is almost there. I would be surprised if we didn't have flying cars within the next decade or so. To be fair, though, I thought the same thing about cancer research ten years ago...

@ meowsePad
then again we are quite close, they're now testing cancer vaccines.
have a way to test for cancer risk based on genetics.
and there's a lot of research going into retro viral gene therapy which I personally feel is key to permanently curing cancer since it's a software bug in the replication algorithm so to speak.

as for flying cars... yeah we're not that far away, just not in the way you might think of them.
nothing with anti-grav lol.
but definitely some kinda quad rotor or high energy ramjet based solutions.

It will probably be around 200-300 years before flying cars are used by every day people. Ordinary cars on the ground seem to get the job done quite fine. I can't see people switching from ordinary cars for a good while. Maybe in about that time period there could possibly be a technology to have flying cars.

In my opinion in the future there will be cities built in the sky so this may be possible.
