Do women's voices even drop? I know we don't get the crackly part at puberty, but... do our voices change at all? :o

actually they do a little bit over time.
however not nearly to the degree men's do.
Compare an elderly woman's voice to a young woman's and it's there.

the big reason I suggested hybrid vocals however was because it improves range and power which should help with the whole scratchy voice/narrow vocal range issue.

many 80's metal singers and power metal singers of both genders employ it to give them that wide and powerful range however it was originally used by opera singers.

well there's tons of videos... but it's actually rather silly.

you need to make a sort of gargle sound, sorta like chubacha from star wars.
another way to think of it is like rolling your R's for like spanish.

the process of doing so strengthens and exercises the upper muscles responsible for controlling the vocal chords rather than the lower one's that most vocal coaches train people to use.

as you can imagine these don't actually get exercised directly very often in day to day use, I do this for about 10 to 15 min a day as a warm up and between that and just good breathing exercises... in the last 4 years I've gone from throat closing up if I try to rainbow in the dark and hallowed be thy name, ranges at my top end.
with a more powerful voice so I don't feel like I need to be right up on the mic.

also helps with shouting and stuff, for getting heard above noise.

I'm really bad at shouting, so that sounds like extra important exercise to me.

I'm better at singing in other languages too~ It's also less intimidating to be heard singing in another language because people are less likely to notice you mess up a word unless they're fluent speakers of it. And yeah, recording is often different sounding- it depends on a lot of variables including the quality of the microphone and the acoustics of the room itself.

Went back to karaoke recently.
Going to karaoke again tonight, I have wednesdays and thursdays off so I'm taking advantage of it to rock out singing 80's pop hits and metal.
